Ground-Based Measurements of Wind and Turbulence at Bucharest–Măgurele: First Results

نویسندگان

چکیده

Doppler wind lidar measurements were used for the first time in Romania to analyse and turbulence statistics a peri-urban site located at Măgurele, southwest of Bucharest. Vertical scanning between December 2019 November 2021 processed using an existing toolbox. The over two-year period performed on seasonal diurnal cycle bases. analyses showed horizontal speed, with lower values during daytime. In upper part planetary boundary layer (PBL), speed is lowest day highest night (near surface, behaviour reversed). has variations year (from approximately 500 m midnight winter 1250 summer noon). direction autumn shows similarities season, prevailing directions from east northeast. season characterised by westerly winds. most variable observed summer, nighttime winds changing northeast west) ERA5 reanalysis similar patterns (slightly underestimated) direction. classes altitude region analysed predominant convection daytime non-turbulent nighttime. To lesser extent, intermittent turbulent class growth decay mixing layer.

Ground Based Measurements of Solar UV Index in Tabriz

Introduction: Ultraviolet index (UVI) is a dimensionless scale, which describes the maximum intensity and biologic effects of UV during a specific time, on surface of the earth. The UVI is  an  international  standard measurement of  the  strength  of sunburn  producing ultraviolet radiation at a particular place and time. This index is an easy and understandable concept for pr...

PICARD SOL, a new ground-based facility for long-term solar radius measurements: first results

PICARD SOL is the ground component of the PICARD mission and is operational since March 2011. A set of instruments including the replica of the space instrument and several atmospheric monitors was set up at Calern observatory in order to compare solar radius measured in space and on ground and to better understand and calibrate atmospheric effects on ground based measurements. SODISM II provid...

First experimental verification of summertime mesospheric momentum balance based on radar wind measurements at 69N

Gravity waves (GWs) greatly influence the background state of the middle atmosphere by imposing their momentum on the mean flow upon breaking and by thus driving, e.g., the upper mesospheric summer zonal wind reversal. In this situation momentum is conserved by a balance between the vertical divergence of GW momentum flux (the so-called GW drag) and the Coriolis acceleration of the mean meridio...

Spatial correlation of solar-wind turbulence from two-point measurements.

Interplanetary turbulence, the best studied case of low frequency plasma turbulence, is the only directly quantified instance of astrophysical turbulence. Here, magnetic field correlation analysis, using for the first time only proper two-point, single time measurements, provides a key step in unraveling the space-time structure of interplanetary turbulence. Simultaneous magnetic field data fro...

A six-beam method to measure turbulence statistics using ground-based wind lidars

A so-called six-beam method is proposed to measure atmospheric turbulence using a ground-based wind lidar. This method requires measurement of the radial velocity variances at five equally spaced azimuth angles on the base of a scanning cone and one measurement at the centre of the scanning circle, i.e.using a vertical beam at the same height. The scanning configuration is optimized to minimize...
